Of course... all of the following are great quality, tested by me personally
Easy CD-DA Extractor, this is a CD ripper and an audio converter
cd-ex http://cdexos.sourceforge.net/
RM Converter, a real audio to mp3 converter
dMC 10 (last free edition) along with its RM codecs
[I uploaded this for you :) ]
http://www.computerboom.net/support/dMC-r10.zip
WinRar, a file compressor
IZARC http://izarc.free.fr/ and/or 7zip http://www.7-zip.org/
Mathtype, an equations editor for MS Word
This one eludes me, I have never used it.. perhaps openoffice.org has this
Blaze DVD, a DVD player
AVS media dvd player free http://www.avsmedia.com/DVDPlayer/index.aspx
Nero, a CD burner
CDBurnerXP Pro http://www.cdburnerxp.se

tell me if this helps and tell me your opinion of these programs :)

slightly OT: It´s not Freewware (WindDAC32 Digital Audio Copy), you
must select every title per title - no bunch copy.
But it is the best what you can get out with a Computer CD-ROM. Some
drives can support (due to WINDAC) under 1x speed (0.1x etc...), then
Sector-synchronising and much more.

I got good away with the free version of WinDAC32... but I merely copy
CD's to my PC.

Best you make a set of different CD-RW Utility/Tool/Burning/Imaging.
E.g. ImgBurn, Cd Burner XP Pro, burnatonce, cdmage etc etc etc...

So I could get rid of NERO.

EAC/LAME see http://www.bestmp3guide.com
or
Foobar2000 + LAME 3.97b
http://www.foobar2000.org/
http://www.rarewares.org/mp3.html
RM Converter, a real audio to mp3 converter MediaCoder
http://mediacoder.sourceforge.net/

WinRar, a file compressor
Rar is closed source and requires a license to use the compression engine.
IZArc natively handles the most formats and will decompress rar.
http://www.izarc.org/
Mathtype, an equations editor for MS Word

Blaze DVD, a DVD player
VLC Player
http://www.videolan.org/
or
Media Player Classic
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=82303&package_id=84358
Nero, a CD burner
To burn music CDs - nothing better than Burrrn (not even Nero)
http://www.burrrn.net/?page_id=4
For everything else:
CDBurner XP Pro
http://www.cdburnerxp.se/
**OT**
Nero OEM can be had for US $1.99
**End OT**

I've got some other suggestions for ya

Does anyone know any freeware alternative to these programs?

Easy CD-DA Extractor, this is a CD ripper and an audio converter
Believe it or not, I really like iTunes
RM Converter, a real audio to mp3 converter

WinRar, a file compressor

Mathtype, an equations editor for MS Word

Blaze DVD, a DVD player

Nero, a CD burner
I'd go with Burn4Free http://www.burn4free.com/ - it can burn all
formats - including DVD - only drawback is the auto-install of an IE
toolbar - easily avoided if you're also running spybot - search and
destroy with the teatimer registery control.

Thank you guys. I've looking for the programs you recommended and I
decided to download 7-zip, mathcast, media coder and cdex. Thanks a
lot.

PS: Could there be a freeware program to create rar files?
