Any new updates

Hi all -

Just wanted to check...are there any new updates for the SpyBot, Adaware and
others, or are they still under attack by the DoS? I ask as the last few
days I have tried to update these programs it says there are no updates
available. I have not been able to update SpyBot since last week. I was just
wondering.

Best regards,
Jan :)

Why do you think there should be an update? SpyBot is not updated very
often; every three to four weeks, at best. I don't use Adaware.
SpywareBlaster is updated about once every other week. IE SpyAd is
maybe every 10 days. Anti-spyware programs aren't updated as
frequently as programs that deal with worms/trojans/backdoors.

Thank you very much for your time and information, I really appreciate it. I
guess it must be very busy, as when I try to do the update, it keeps
hanging up, or says no new updates were available. I tried again this
morning, and got the same message. I'll keep trying. ;-)

Sorry....I didn't know, that is why I asked the question. It is a bit hard
to keep up with when all the updates are done, some sooner or more often
than others, and I try to update and run my programs at least every other
day normally, and everyday when threats are high. So, since many sites were
recently under DoS attack, I was not sure if some were still unavailable for
updating.

Thank you for your time and information, I appreciate it very much.

What's the date of your AdAware defs? It should be 15.02.2004. If you still
can't get the updates, check your HOSTS file. Some malicious program may have
rewritten it to block AdAware updates!

On NT/2000/XP, it's \windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts. On 9x, search for
"hosts".

If the contents of your HOSTS file is anything other (aside from comments)

127.0.0.1 localhost

rename HOSTS to HOST.OLD and then try updating AdAware (and your antivirus
program).

I don't have any HOSTS files at this time, I have not yet set this up. I
finally managed to get the Adaware updated just 30 minutes ago, but, still
can not update the SpyBot. I am not sure what the last update was, I can't
seem to find anyplace to find that information. I have checked the SpyBot
folder to see if I could find a file that would indicate this date, but,
could not find anything.

I still can not update the CWShredder either. But, now that I have finally
been able to get to the Adaware site to update, that at least gives me one
of the two pest programs I know for sure is up to date. I know many of the
sites have been under DoS attack and are still unavailable.

Thank you very much for your time and help, I truly appreciate it.

I did just get Adaware updated a little while ago. But, SpyBot is still not
showing any new updates available. I did try two other of the update
locations but they were also showing no updates available. Perhaps there are
no new updates since early last week, but, it just seems odd that there is
so much going on and no new updates for SpyBot. I don' t know how these
update things work that well. It would just seem that if Adaware had an
update, SpyBot would have one within a short time too. But, maybe not.???

Thank you very much for your time to provide this additional information, I
really do appreciate it.

Sabots, last update was 02-14-04 according to their pafe
http://www.safer-networking.org/index.php?page=download their tools
update last update as of the 16th. There won't be as many spy/ad/mal
updates as virus updates.

Thank you so much for this additional information, most especially for the
dates of the last updates. I know I have not been able to update my SpyBot
files since before the 14th. I have tried again this morning using all the
mirrors that are on my Update toolbar, and it still shows no new updates.
So, I have downloaded and reinstalled the program anew from the link you
have provided here, just in case. I assume that the database files with the
new program update are perhaps more recent than my last update.

I truly do appreciate your time and help with this issue. ;-))
