Any new ideas on the update installation bug?

Hello, All and especially Microsoft if they follow this news
group!

The arrival of the badly needed security update reminded of the
bug in MS' installation process. Apparently, temporary files are
written to the last named hard disk on the system and these are
used during installation and then deleted. This is all very well
but my last named disk is a USB disk that I use for backups and
the installation process fails causing a reboot.

My solution is to demount the USB disk before installation but I
don't see why that should be necessary; surely MS has heard of
this problem but seems to have no intention of fixing it!

I should add that I do *not* want to talk to a MS support
staffer. I just would like to e-mail my comment to the
appropriate place. I did spend some time months ago discussing
the problem with a helpful person but nothing came of it. The
demounting of the USB disk was my own idea.
