Antivirus autoprotect problem

P

Paul Wong

I am using Norton AV 2004, and has a problem that I can't turn the
auto-protect on. I have scan my system several times by using Norton AV
2004, as well as AVG Antivirus, but no virus has been detected.

Norton people keep telling me that i have to uninstall it cleanly and
reinstall again, however, no less than 6 times I repeat the process, the
Norton AV still shows the same problem.

I wish there is somebody in this world able to let me know how to correct
it.

This is not an uncommon problem. The steps to resolve vary a
little, but the process goes something like this.

1. Add/Remove programs - Uninstall Nav 2004
2. Reboot
3. Add/Remove programs - Uninstall LiveReg
4. Add/Remove programs - Uninstall LiveUpdate
5. Download & Run RNav.Exe (Symantec Web-Site)
Also Check for Registry Cleanup tool related to
Installer entries
6. Download "Windows Installer Cleanup"
Run program, removing any Symantec or Norton
entries.
7. Reboot - Re-install Nav

I am becoming more and more convinced that NAV2004 *is* a virus.

Or maybe "Malware" ? as in Mal-functioning.

No software is 100% defect free (Well, maybe Perfect Disk
2000 comes close). As long as you can workaround an issue in
a reasonable time, that's acceptable. However, the next time I
have to spend 2+ Hours untangling Symantec remnants & keys
I may rethink my position.
