AntiSpyware disabled XP SP2 ICF

Francisco Ramirez

Hi,

After applying the AntiSpyware beta 1 in my machine, it detected many adware
programs.

Followed the steps to remove some of them, others not. Then I restarted the
machine as suggested, but the ICF, via the Security Center messages says
that here is not any Firewall activated.

If I try to start the service manually, the message reads: Error 10047: An
address incompatible with the requested protocol was used.

Any ideas of what this could be?

Thanks

Hi Francisco,

It sounds to me like the TCP/IP stack has been corrupted or, more than
likely, Winsock2 corruption (a common occurrence when removing malware).

Have a look at these:

How to reset Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=299357

How to determine and recover from Winsock2 corruption
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/811259

WinSock XP Fix 1.2
http://www.spychecker.com/program/winsockxpfix.html
(I'll hazard a guess that running the above WinSock XP Fix will "cure" the
problem)

Bear in mind that MS Anti-Spyware is a beta version and should not be run on
a production or sole machine..

Patti:

Thank you very much!

The article about Winsock2 corruption solved the issue.

Hi Mike,

Although I understand this, I would like to say it is the malware installed
that created the firewall problem, not MS Anti-Spyware, the MS program just
needs to incorporate the winsock fix somehow I think :)

Thanks, I had the same problem and was fixed by the above solutions.
