Realtime monitoring can be turned off and on at will.

According to Ewido, the pro-version is the same as the free the first 14
days.
But real-time monitoring is a feature only in the pro-version, so you will
soon lose this and other extensions like:
"Realtime monitoring of the entire system
Memory Scan detects active threats
Self-protection at kernel layer guarantees gapless monitoring
Scan inside archives
Secure detection and deletion of DLL-Trojans
Automatic online-update".

I've seen mixed reviews, but your input will make me try this one.
Thanks(?). :-)

But, Antivir offers an interesting possible salvation: there are
modules/submodules that can be turned off. For example, Instant
Messaging (I don't use it -- click), Outlook/Exchange (Over my dead
body -- click), P2P Shield (in another lifetime: click). And "Web
Shield:" do I really need this as a resident protection?

Seems good but the updates always seem to be 3.5MB and the server runs
really slow.

I did not see anything in Anti-Vir other than:

Configuration | unwanted programs | <list of things...>

Is this what you are talking about?

Are you sure these are AntiVir modules? They look like Avast! ones to
me.
