imgja,

Is your Internet Explorer or Outlook Express set to work off-line or on-line?

Please check in the File menu of Internet Exporer or Outlook Express - the
"Work off-line" option should nºt be checked.

Do you have a software or hardware firewall that controls outbound
connections?

Let us know howworks ºut. it

I just installed a PC from scratch (Windows XP Home), and then tried
installing Antispyware from the Microsoft website.
It registers as version .615 (not the latest .701) and will not run as it is
out of date.
I then uninstalled, removed every trace from the registry, and from program
files, and tried the re-installation with the .701 executable I have on
another PC.
I got the same problem with the version coming up as expired end of 2005.

Any suggestions?

Two ideas:

1) in the course of the new install, did you modify the long or short date
formats for the locale?
Try switching the language for Windows to English (United States) and then
retrying the install.

2) what happens if you navigate to the installation folder and manually run
gcasSWupdater.exe? (give it a few minutes--see if you get an upgrade
download prompt, and if you accept that, whether it fixes the problem.

At present, my suggestion are 1) try navigating to gcasSWupdater.exe in the
installation folder and running that to see if you get offered an
autodownload.

and 2) uninstall Microsoft Antispyware
delete the \program files\microsoft antispyware folder and all subfolders.
You'll lose access to quarantined items, custom settings, and histroy.

then Reinstall Microsoft Antispyware from your downloaded file.

\program files\microsoft antispyware\gcasSWUpdater.exe

(this is the default location, but you were free to modify it when you
installed, of course.)
