Another Windows Mail Glitch

I think this is also related to the Send/Receive problem that is being talked
about.

After the initial send/receive at start-up if new mail arrives a message is
placed in the status bar on the bottom right of the window that reaads "New
Messages". Also when mail arrrives a new message icon appears in the System
Tray. After reading the new messages neither the system tray icon or the
status bar message will clear.

After the initial send/receive if there is not any new messages there is a
message in the status bar that reads "No New Messages".

Now which ever one of these messages gets set at the start-up they will not
go away until the user ends their windows session by logging off. If you
close Windows Mail and restart the message not change fro what it was set to
before after the first start-up of the user session. So if there is new
mail on the first start-up but none the second time the program loads the new
message icon and message in the status bar are still there. And vice-versa
for no messages then new message arrive. The No New Messages status bar
message is still present even thou there is new mail listed in the inbox.

This is getting very annoying.

It is very likely that this problem is caused by your antivirus.
Windows Mail is not compatible with most McAfee or
Norton security programs. Those will need to be
uninstalled, not just disabled.

After uninstalling your non-compatible antivirus, download
and install a more compatible antivirus like the free Avast:
http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html

Even compatible antivirus programs will need to have their
email scanning option turned off. For more on this topic see

I am running the 32 bit version of Vista Business on a brand new out of the
box laptop that I purchased earlier today. There are no firewalls or
antivirus installed and the Windows Firewall is disabled until I get this
sonfigured the way I want befoer turning it over to my step-niece. The only
thing I did was I went to the MS update site and applied the latest security
updates. Then I opened Windows mail to compare it aginst Mozilla
Thunderbird. My niece doesn't like thunderbird...neither do I. But she also
doesn't like the full blown version of Outlook either...too many features fro
her. But than we discovred her schools email is done through Groupwise.
Problem solved...I dumped Windows Mail.
Thanks for the advice and time.
