I'd be really grateful if someone could help me this problem that I'm having
with Help & Support.
I'm running XP Pro with SP2.
H&S starts ok, but the following things don't happen:-
* there are no results for any word I enter in the Search box - the
Results pane appears but with no results in it. The Stop button is greyed
out.
* full-text and knowledgebase search tabs do not appear
* if I hit the Support button on the top toolbar, I get the support page
but with nothing in the LH pane
* if I hit the Options button and then choose Set Search Options, I only
get the options to choose how many searches I want returning and whether to
turn on the search highlight. The options to allow full-text &
knowledgebase searches do not appear.
There are no error messages.
Also in H&S, if I go to Tools and then, for example, View Advanced System
Information, the System Information window comes up but says
"Can't Collect Information. Cannot access the Windows Management
Information software. Windows Management files may be moved or missing".
When I close that window, I get an error message saying,
"Internet Explorer Script Error.
An error has occurred in the scrip on this page.
Line: 60
CHR: 3
Error: Object Required
Code: 0
URL: hcp//system/sysinfo/msinfo.htm
Do you want to continue running scripts on this page?"
Other Advanced System Information options, like View Running Services or
View the error log, show a generic failure above the Collecting Services
Information thermometer (which shows 100% ).
I include the information above about Tools & System Information not working
merely as a possible aid to diagnosis. My prime interest is in getting the
H&S to work.
I've tried two things.
First I removed and re-installed WMI from Windows components. Both times
(remove & re-install) I got the error message,
"Distributed Transaction Co-ordinator Setup Error
Sub-component Distributed Transaction Co-ordinator raised an exception while
processing the OC_COMPLETE_INSTALLATION setup message.
d:\nt\com\com1x\dtc\ntdtcsetup\src\csetuputil.cpp (line2748)
Error Code=0x80004005
Unspecified error
Failed to execute function 'DllRegisterServer()' in
'C:\WINDOWS\system32\mtxoci.dll'."
That didn't cure the problem.
Secondly I re-instaled XP. No difference.
If you're still awake after reading this, thanks for being interested enough
to read to the end. Now, can you help please?
Ta muchly,
Michael Walsh
