Another Norton Gripe

Sorry if this is wrong NG - but I cannot find a suitable Norton or Symantec
NG>
I have Norton Internet Security 2006 - it was installed on my new DELL PC
when I bought it a few weeks ago. The OUTBREAK ALERT feature displays the
message " outbreak alert currently does not detect any rapidly spreading
threats" which is comforting - except for the fact that below this it
reports " Data current as of 2 February 2006". I have run LiveUpdate a
number of times and it tells me all the Symantec components on my PC are
up-to-date etc. I have sent several emails to Symantec Support but for
reasons unknown they appear to be completely unable to understand what my
problem is. They say "Since you have internet connection there is no need
to have concern regarding this issue." I truly cannot comprehend the logic
of that remark as the only reason I am concerned is because I have an
internet connection!!!!

Can it really be that Norton have not issued any Outbreak Alerts since 2
February 2006? If their data is that old is this feature doing anything
worthwhile and should I simply "turn it off"?

Thank you for the link, Sir.
I agree it is good if there have been no Outbreaks requiring issue of
alerts. My gripe is that the DATE should be updated so that users KNOW that
the stated position is current rather than 5 months ago.
My fault, perhaps, for expecting perfection. LOL
Case closed!!!

If you are having a problem with NIS, then remove it ASAP. Use the
several free anti-virus and several free firewall apps out there
instead.
