Annoying Windows Messenger update reminder

Months ago I removed the check mark from Windows Messenger in the
Add/Remove Programs panel.

In the last 2 weeks (after doing some Windows XP updates) a window
keeps on popping up daily reminding me that there is a new version of
Messenger and asking whether I want to update to it. There are only
two options in the window: Yes or No. I have been clicking No and the
window keeps appearing

How can I eliminate this window?

Txs,
Carlos

Go to start | run | msconfig, check the startup tab, and untick the MSN
Messenger (msmsgr.exe or something like that). Restart. Does that help?

I've found that this little !@#$ will keep coming back periodically no
matter what I do, but this generally works, at least for a bit.

As long as Messenger is installed on your system, it will keep reminding you
there is an update until you check yes. For what it's worth, I check yes,
let it update and then leave it turned off until *I* want to use it. BTW,
the update had nothing to do with the fact that you did some windoze
updates.

I didn't - I think you meant to reply to the original poster. ;-)

I followed the advice of you both to remove the pesty remider.

I let it update Messenger. This caused the Messenger icon to show in
the task bar even though there is no check mark for it in the
add/remove programs panel.

Also, I had to unchek it from the Starrtup panel. (It had been
unchecked before the update but the update put a chech mark there.)
