First, put you right hand over your heart, raise your left hand and repeat
after me:
"I will not open attachments, even from people that I know, unless I expect
an attachment. I will contact them to find out if they sent one to me and
what it is. If it is from an unknown sender, I will delete the entire
message as spam."
Repeat this mantra every time you do a send/receive. Do it religiously. Do
it daily. I will tell you when you can stop. I promise. No, really! You
can trust me on this. Honest!
Seriously, though, what version of Outlook are you using? If you look under
Add/Remove programs in the control panel, do you see anything that you do
not recognize?
Try downloading AdAware, SpyBot or another program that will scan your
system for this type of stuff and then remove it when you find it. (AdAware-
http://www.lavasoftusa.com or Spybot -
http://security.kolla.de/news.php?lang=en) Run a complete scan of your
computer using your AV software with the latest definitions as well.
If you are running windows xp, turn on the personal firewall included in XP.
If not running XP, download the free Zone Alarm (
http://www.zonelabs.com)
and closely monitor the incoming and outgoing traffic from your PC.
