Annoyance - Windows Explorer Window Size

Mates,

Has anyone figured out how to make XP (sp1) remember
the windows size of Windows Explorer?? When I open
windows explorer (my primary tool) the window doesn't
open to its last size. Sometimes it does. Many times it
open up at what looks like 800x600 and I have to resize
it. In all past versions, 3.1, 95a/b, 98a/b windows was
smart enough to remember the windows explorer window
size. Is there a registry setting somewhere that I can
hardwire to solve this problem? Anybody else seeing this?

The only way I know to make it permanent is to manually increase the
size, then control-click the window closed. Do this every time an new
mis-sized window opens. Usually only 3-4 times AIRC.

Open a window. Use the cursor keys to grab the edges and drag it to the
size you want, don't use the maximize button. Then close the window
with File | Close.

Open a window - in its Tools - Folder Options - View ensure that
'remember each folders view settings is checked'. You can usefully do
this after adjusting it in all ways as you would like by default - then
click Apply to All.

But the number of separate windows settings that it stores is too
