Annotation on PPT slides

During my slideshows, I use the pen pointer option to
annotate on my slides during presentations. Often to make
a point, I will use the hotkey "b" or "w" to bring up a
blank slide with black background or white background.
Powerpoint 2003 has broken this feature. The slide does
appear, however, annotation is impossible because as soon
as the pen touches the slide; the slide disappears back to
a slide in the presentation.

Any fixes for this? ScreenWatch Producer software is
recording my spreadsheets, medical images, web pages and
PPT with ease. www.screenwatch.com I need the slide
annotation to continue using PPT.

That is by design. If you need a blank slide to make annotations, add it to
your presentation and "jump" to it when you need it. The B and W keys are
intended to pause the slide show, i.e. make slide show functions unavailable
until you toggle them back on.
