[ANN}: Actual Title Buttons Lite

D

Dick Hazeleger

Hi to all!

Some time ago I had a problem with re-installing Actual Title Buttons
Lite (always on top / Roll up of program's windows), and I contacted
the author (Michael Tretyakov).

It turned out that ATBL was no longer available from the ActualTools
web site. Since I see ABTL as a really nice and lightweight utility
program, I asked the author (Michael Tretyakov) whether he would object
to the program being made available through my own web site. A few days
later I received a message from him telling that he had no objections,
under the condition that I would point out clearly that there would be
no support for the program from ActualTools.

The program is ready for download from the site now, the page can be
accessed in two ways:

1. From the special downloads menu at http://www.hazeleger.net

2. Directly from: http://www.hazeleger.net/special/atbl.htm

Please note that I, nor anyone else associated with the site, will
provide support for the program; i.o.w. you're on your own.

I have asked Michael Tretyakov to provide a registration code for the
program, so far I haven't heard from him, but as soon as I have
received one, it will be published on the same page as the download,
without any form to fill.

Regards to all;
Dick

Though http://www.mywebattack.com/gnomeapp.php?id=107115 talks about the
Lite version ( atbLsetup.exe ) , the links point ( redirect to ) to the
full version ATBSETUP.EXE.

The lite versions still appears to be on the main site
at http://www.actualtools.com/files/

atblsetup.exe 05-Aug-2003 20:33 1.5M

Hi Colin,

WRONG!

When you view the http://www.actualtools.com/files/ directory
atblsetup.exe shows this link:

http://www.actualtools.com/files/atblsetup.exe

try to download and the link *redirects* to:

http://www.actualtools.com/files/atbsetup.exe (1802 KB) (v 2.8)

FWIW the license agreement says in part:

<q>
2. Permitted Uses and Restrictions. This License allows you to install
and use the unregistered version of the Software for a reasonable period
of time for the purpose of determining whether the Software is suitable
for your needs. The use of the full version of the Software requires
registration.
</q>

The license for v 2.0 liteware => atblsetup.exe (1581 KB) says exactly
the same thing. . .

I believe I've about reached the point of "Frankly, my dear, I don't
give a damn" what kind of ware this is. . .

I think I believe the same as well, now..
Interesting trick though to have that *redirect* in process..

Only people who have a special awareness realize that and avoid
downloading the non-freeware version.

But there is a danger with such redirection tricks.

An "awareness elite" could form and more naturally reacting people could
be led to download the payware version without realizing it.

Then they show up here and ask questions about the payware version..

Then we would have to tell them: Frankly, my dear..

So true Roger; I only "looked" but I didn't "see"; quite unlike my original
training -- I must be getting out of the habit....
All the best ,

no. obviously, susan never considered that the snapflies (webattack) link
hasn't been updated. (that's the link she is talking about but Dick clearly
states that the lite version can only be downloaded from his site)

Has the url to "Dicks site" been mentioned here lately?
I must have missed it, could you please give us that url?

I want that program.

Frankly my dear, I don't know what the "L" (as in liteware) is going on.

v 2 liteware (atblsetup.exe 1581 KB) and v 2.8 (atbsetup.exe 1802 KB)
have the same EULA.

so. . .

Registerware *if* registration is free. . .

Trialware-shareware *if* registration is not free. . .

thinking about that for a bit. . .

The registration requirements could change from day-to-day. . .

Free on Monday, $$$ on Tuesday. . . :)

Susan,

Thank you sooooo very much! I virtually HATE direct (aka "hot")
linking... I have a special place for direct linkers... in my
".htaccess"!!! Is it so much of a hassle to point people either to the
menu or to the page explaining the whole thing? It sure rewards those
webmasters who do try to help... errr, *not* that is.

If you want to link to it, then please do it properly:

I don't see a request on that page asking people not to link to the
download. Apologies for my inability to read your mind. . .

Perhaps it is common pratice in your house that strangers boast in
through the windows and the backdoors, in mine it isn't... there is a
doorbell and a frontdoor... in this analogy: there is a web page for
the program. I think it tells me more about your mentality than you
would like.

IMO this has nothing to do with "reading a mind", but everything with
"good manners"!!!

UGH.

I don't know anything about this sw, but here's one interpretation.

The full version has a time-out. The light version does not have a
time-out. Then that the light version is not licensed as freeware;
and is instead what the author views a trial demo, until you become
interested in buying the full version.

Btw, I saw no freeware listed on the author's products page. Everything
there had a "Buy" link. No loss to me personally. Stuff there looked
generally obese and squishy.

So I'm also filing his under the - "Frankly dear..."

I've looked at Actual stuff before, made the mistake of installing one
once. I doubt they do anything that can't be done much more efficiently
with a freeware app.
'Obese and squishy' is good. :)
