I would like to have a map on a slide where I can click on a location, have
an animation occur on the map, then go to my hyperlink. Any ideas on how to
do this?

First, right click on the hyperlink, select Action Setting.
Instead of using mouse click, select Mouse Over tab.
Click on the Hyperlink to, then click on the dropdown field.
Select URL and insert the url tthat you want to hyperlink to.
Add the animation that you want to occur on the map.
Now, draw rectangle that covers the hyperlink entirely.
Double click on the rectangle to bring up the Format AutoShape.
Set the Fill to 99% transparency and line to no line.
This will create an 'invisible' rectangle.
Now, click Slide Show > Custom Animation.
Add disappear effect onto the rectangle.
Select both the disappear effect and another animation that you have added.
Right click and select Timing.
Click on Triggers button.
Select Start effect on click of.
Click on the dropdown and select the rectangle itself.
Ok your way out.
Set the Start for animation you have added and disappear effect to "After
Previous".
Make sure that the disappear effect is animated last.

Once you have done these, clicking on the hyperlink should trigger an
animation, then followed by the invisible rectangle disappearing, which will
automatically mouse over the hyperlink.

Tohlz's way will work fine but I think ONLY as long as the mouse stays still
while the animation plays.

How about a different approach

Have the "hyperlink" jump to the slide before the real hyperlink and make
this slide a duplicate of the initial slide. Set the animation to play after
previous and the transition to auto after 0 seconds. When you click the link
the dupe slide will show (you wont notice) then the animations then the
hyperlink slide

If you want to return to the first slide you might want to make these last
two slides a custom show and tick show and return when hyperlinking
