Does anyone know how to animate text in PPT 2003 so the line of text
reveals character by character - left to right - like a David Letterman
top 10 style list?

Thanks...

Few ways to do so.
First, open up the custom animation.
Then, click on the textbox, click Add effect > Entrance > More effects.
Select Color typewriter.
Then, double click on the color typewriter effect to bring up the effect
options.
Change both colors to black.

Alternately, you can add Appear/Fade effect,
then double click on the appear/fade effect to bring up effect options.
Under Animate text dropdown, select By letter. Alter the "seconds delay
between letters" to your preference.
