Animating portions of a line of text

I'd like to do custom animation, having different parts of a single
line of text fade in. Can this be done? Example:

Word 1 + Word 2 + Word 3

would display on screen as

Word 1 (then on click...)

Word 1 + Word 2 (then on click...)

Word 1 + Word 2 + Word 3

Hmm, I hope that's semi-clear.

When I highlight a word to do this with though, PPT wants to
transition the entire line of text.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

Rich,

You'll need to create text boxes for each of the words you want to animate
On Click. To ensure proper alignment, select each word and use your Alignment
tool to e.g., Align bottom and Distribute Horizontally.

Thanks Sandy. I'll give it a try. It sounds like it will work better
than what I've tried before (copy slide and modify). When I did that,
PPT would auto-size fonts and mess it up.

Just as an FYI, you can turn off autosizing by right-clicking the textbox or
placeholder and choosing Format Textbox. Then in the Format dialog, choose
the Textbox tab and then uncheck "resize autoshape to fit text."
