Animated gifs, etc. not showing in incoming messages-Outlook 2002

Hi folks. When someone sends me an email with an animated gif, my Outlook
program converts it to an attachment. I've also noticed that my signature
file loses all of its formatting.

I've tried sending a message out with the above properties and I can see the
animation and formatting in the outgoing message (not using Word as my
editor). When the message comes in all text is plain text and the gif is an
attachment. Any help would be appreciated. TIA

Sounds like the messages are being received as Plain Text. Contact your ISP
to find out if your mail account supports HTML formatted messages.

Hello Roady. Thank you for the quick reply. Apparently the problem is with
Outlook 2002 (XP) or a setting. Using another non-Outlook service provider I
was able to create a message with formating and send it to my ISP. I checked
it through webmail with my ISP. Everything was there.

I then installed Outlook Express to see if that would work and it transfers
formats without a problem.

This could be because of your virus scanner that integrates with Outlook or
Outlook is set to receive all messages as Plain Text;
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\10.0\Outlook\Options\Mail
Key: ReadAsPlain

When this value is set to 0 or when the key is not present messages will be
received in their normal format.

If you don't like going into the registry you can also control this options
through OutlookTools (free)
