Did you ever get a fix for this? I've just encountered the identical
problem.

Unknown errors in Windows Mail are often due to interference from an
antivirus program. What if any antivirus programs do you have?

For a temporary fix, download and install this hotfix, with Windows
Mail not running:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/941090

Although it's labelled as for mail stuck in the Outbox, it also works in
other folders. If you don't know whether you have a 32-bit version
of Vista or a 64-bit version, try the hotfix for the 32-bit version first.
The Vista SP1 update also contains this hotfix, but takes longer to
install.

When I open up my Windows Mail, the email I have say the same thing. Windows
Mail encountered a problem while displaying this message. Check your computer
for low memory or low disk space and try again." So this not my case either,
because when I try to delete the email, a message pop up saying "An Unknown
Error has Occurred

Can't get the fix to install. An update for a standalone installer starts to
run and then get a message that the update does not apply . So I never get
to the point where I can install the fix. Any suggestionS

Have you tried both the 32-bit version of the hotfix and the 64-bit version?
At least one of them will refuse to install that way. If this happens for
both of them, you may have to use the Vista SP1 update instead, even
though it's likely to take hours longer to install.

Unknown errors and messages that won't delete in Windows Mail are often
caused by interference from antivirus programs, and Windows Mail is not very
good at giving correct error messages for such problems. What if any
antivirus
programs do you have?

of Vista or a 64-bit version, try the hotfix for the 32-bit version first.
The Vista SP1 update also contains this hotfix, so you can try it if both
versions of the hotfix refuse to install, even though this will take hours
longer.
