An embarrassing picture appears!

Something very embarrassing has happened. I am usually in my office only a
day or two a week. I leave my desktop (Win2000 Pro on a network) running
all the time to support forwarding my e-mail to my cell phone and my
secretary is supposed to reboot the machine daily (but I doubt she actually
does this or she would have brought this to my attention). When I rebooted
the machine tonight it stopped and prompted me to press Ctrl+Alt+Delete as
usual. However, after I did so and entered my p/w a pornographic picture
appeared. The picture remained on the screen for a few seconds and
disappeared when the desktop started up. From that point the computer seems
to run fine. I can get the picture to reappear by pressing Ctrl+Alt+Delete
and it appears with the Task Manager windows. Once I leave the Task Manager
the picture disappears. I have searched using WinExplorer for all files
ending in *.jpg and *.bmp but found nothing potentially related. I also ran
AdAware, which found a bunch of ad ware things which I deleted, but the
picture still appears when I press Ctrl+Alt+Delete! Help! This is a work
place and I have to get this fixed.

Any suggestions? I tried restarting the computer and going to the last
Known Good Configuration but the picture returns as outlined.

Right-click on the Desktop. Select Properties. Turn off Background,
Screen Saver. Then add in the background you like etc.

I should try Spyware Doctor, run the free program and see what it brings up.
Another good one is NoAdware - both give information but do not cure until you
pay, unless you can find a fix for that.

Uhhh, why would it ask you to do that??

The desktop background and the desktop you see are 2 different things,
check the 'background' in 'settings', you probably had your system
used to surf porn sites when you weren't there, and it picked up a
trojan that installed the picture.

Thanks!

Security? It has been doing that ever since the IT guy set it up in my
office and said "It's yours!"

I will try working on the "background" as you and others have suggested when
I next get in there.
