No need to mess up your computer

Using the new free vmware player you can load Ubuntu Linux on top of
windows,
in otherwords the linux will be a window on your desktop
Ubuntu has made a virtual machine pre-installed so all you need is on this
page:

http://www.vmware.com/vmtn/vm/ubuntu.html

Linux Ubuntu is considered one of the best upcoming versions of linux

If you want to browse the internet safely you can download this virtual
machine
that is actually firefox installed on ubuntu linux

http://www.vmware.com/vmtn/vm/browserapp.html

of course you will also need the free vmware player here
http://www.vmware.com/download/player/

So how is this a Windows XP question? Why would users bother with VMware
since they could use the LiveCD Ubuntu to boot it from a CD and run it from
there without ever having to install it (until they decide to keep it)? If
they decide they want to install it on the hard drive, they could use
VMware's player but they could also use Microsoft's VirtualPC player -
assuming they really need to have both the host and guest OS running at the
same time, have the hardware resources for such, and don't mind a
degradation in performance in both OS'es.

I agree with the previous reply. Why bother using up precious resources
when a lie cd would be much better. Knoppix is pretty good.

I have the Ubuntu S.10 Live CD and want to load it on my XP Pro machine for a
Linux class I'm taking. Are there instructions to do this so I can use the
Linux environment? I couldn't do much with Ubuntu except scroll through the
different facilities. I would like to get to the internet from my desktop
using Ubuntu.
Thanks for any help.

Hi there

It should tell you how to install it on the cd somewhere. If not there
is a great website called www.distrowatch.org that has more distros
than you could hope for.

Just download the cds/dvd and burn them then install.
