Amend start up programs - how?

My friend has Windows 2000 professional on his laptop and wants me to take a
look at the programs that start when he boots up the laptop. I tried
'msconfig' in 'Run' but that did not work (I use XP Pro). What program do I
need to run to sort this out?

You could just copy msconfig from your xp machine onto the 2000 one, it does
still work.
