How to speed up my start up?

I am trying to speed up the time it takes my computer to start up, but I need
some help. I went to msconfig and turned off all the programs not necessary
to me to run at start up. I am currently starting up about 5 programs on my
IBM 390E laptop. When the Windows 2000 screen comes to start up the status
bar goes really fast to half way and then lags the last half. It seems like
it takes to long to start up. Is there anyone that could give me some more
tips on how to start it up faster. Thanks

Hi,

You might consider also going into your BIOS and making your hard drive
the first boot device. If you ever need to have your floppy or CD drive
boot first, it's easy enough to set it when needed.

What you describe is fairly normal behaviour. The load time on the screen
you described can be improved, sometimes dramatically, by a good defragger.

Hi Mike,
I've seen this with some soft of hardware or diver issue. Check you
event logs for any type of error that is occurring at startup.

Look at :
"right click on "My Computer"/
Advanced/
Startup & Recover/
Display list of operating system for ___ seconds"

Try 10-15 seconds. Some programs may require more.

That's a good way to improve boot time if there is more than one OS installed. There are no programs running this early in the boot, so that's not an issue, just leave enough time for an operator time to see and react to the prompt during boot. I find that 3 seconds is enough for that.
