Does Microsoft have available updates for the AMD 64 bit
products ?

Like the motherboards and CPU's

Currently, there is no version of the XP OS compatible with the AMD 64 chip
but there is expected to be one available shortly. I cannot give you a time
frame as we've heard nothing though one report had available by the end of
the year, at the moment, given we've seen nothing, that's not likely.

However, it is my understanding, the AMD chip emulates a 32-bit environment,
hence most currently compatible apps and the OS should be compatible. You
might want to check some AMD boards on the subject or contact tech support
of the some of the items of interest, motherboards, CPU, etc.

AMD states that the regular Windows XP version (32 bit) can run on AMD 64s,
then your staement thet "tkere is no version of XP OS compatible with AMD
64..." is false.

MS is coming out with 64 bit XP, first for the Intel 64 chips then thee AMD
64s. The Intel 64 XP OS is in beta and the AMD has no time frame"

Y.

Hmm... I think you'll find that the Intel Itanium version is already
available (to system builders) and there is already a beta for the AMD 64bit
CPU's...

Not false, just poorly worded.

There is no version of XP that was designed for the AMD 64 processor at this
time and that was what I meant. If you bothered to read the rest of my post
you would have noted that I stated "The AMD chip emulates a 32-bit
environment, hence most currently available apps and the OS should be
compatible."

Further, it appeared the OP was not asking if XP would run on the AMD-64 but
asking if product would be available to take advantage of that environment.
Difficult to say from the wording of the OP but asking if updates for the
AMD 64-bit products such as motherboards and CPUs would be available would
seem to imply he was not strictly looking for products that would run on
that platform so much as product that would take advantage of that
environment.

Nonetheless, for the sake of clarity I didn't mean to imply that XP was not
compatible, only that it was not designed for a 64-bit processor.

What is this????????

If you read the page it is specifically for the Intel 64-bit Itanium
Processor. It is not meant for the AMD-64 bit processor.
