almost no sound

I have reformatted with win2000 pro and have almost no sound. with the volume on high it is faintly heard,

all drivers installed and upgraded.

AM I missing something ?

is this a Sony Vaio laptop? I ask cos a friend of mine had a similar
issue with his Vaio after upgrading the sound drivers from the Windows
Update site. He went back to the older Sony drivers and all was OK.

Try some different (older/newer) drivers?

Everytime I had this problem it has been a weak sound card. Get an amplified
speaker set. If its a laptop, then you have software problems.

Are you using powered speakers? Might they then have their own volume
control? Have you checked the volume control on the speakers
themselves?
