Allow User to Designate Default Contacts Location

I have already posted this question, and it seems that Outlook 2003, when
running in an Exchange environment in a domain, uses the Contacts folder
located on the mailbox on the Exchange server as the default Contacts
location. I have contacts offline in a .pst file and cannot tell ActiveSync
to sync to those contacts vs. the ones on the Exchange server, which I don't
want.

Here is the original question:

I am running Office Outlook 2003 with SP1 in a domain environment using
Exchange. My Contacts appear on the Exchange server under my username. I
would like to store my contacts offline, on my local machine in a .pst file
with high encryption for security. I have the .pst file view opened in
Outlook and I can see all the contacts just fine. However, I am trying to
get ActiveSync 3.8 to sync with those offline contacts. How can I designate
the offline .pst as the default contacts location so that I can sync them
with my PocketPC?

Thanks!

Was there something about the original "can't be done" answers to your question that you didn't understand?

Sorry! Your original reply in a related thread said "IIRC," which didn't
sound too definitive. I just figured someone at Microsoft would hear the
suggestion and perhaps enable that feature in a later version or service
pack. (fat chance, I know).

Sorry to double up. My bad!

Is there a way to encrypt my contacts which are located on the Exchange
server (the default contacts) then? Obviously my primary concern is
security. Not knowing a whole lot about Exchange, how can I be sure that
sensitive information in contacts remains safe?

Thanks!

Microsoft does not monitor these groups, except for suggestions filed through their web interface.

Exchange is a high-performance, enterprise-ready mail and collaboration server. Protection of all data is built in and based on permissions granted for mailboxes and folders. No one can read your data unless they have permission.
