All Users Folder

I place an icon in the All users folder so that all user can access
this Icon. Why is it that when one user deletes this icon on their
own desktop that it removes it from the "All users desktop" and as a
result dissapears from everyones desktop. I end up having to put the
icon back in the All Users desktop folder so that they can all access
it again, and then I tell the users not to delete their desktop Icons.
How can I get around this...

When a user starts up, his/her desktop is populated from these two
folders:-

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Desktop
C:\Documents and Settings\User Name\Desktop

When you add to the first folder, it does NOT get placed in all the
users' desktop folders. Their desktops just pick it up from there.

So deleting an item that is in the "All Users" folder from a user's
desktop will delete it from the "All Users" folder and other users
will no longer see it.

You could do one of these things:-

Read the riot act to the recalcitrant person!!

Make the recalcitrant person's account a limited account without
administrative priveleges.

Set the file to be "Read only". A warning should then be given when
anyone tries to delete it.

Put the same icon in all the individual users' folders (but this is
clumsy)

Thanks for your response...

You would figure Microsoft to have, by default, a defense against
icons being deleted from the All users folders simply because they
deleted it from their own desktop but I guess not.

We had to set folder permission on the All Users Desktop folder in
order to prevent itmes in it from being deleted. But this also now
means the user is stuck with these icons on thier desktop taking away
from their ability to customize.
