All Outlook 2003 mail messages have a background colour

Whenever a mail message is received using Outlook 2003 the entire
message has a burgundy background.

Text is difficult to read, unless highlighted.

Whenever a mail message is sent, my PC displays the burgundy background
when the sent message is viewed, but the recipient does not receive the
burgundy colour.

The mail message is quite normal to the receiver.

What can cause this problem?

Any suggestions?

Assuming you notice this with HTML formatted messages, then I would suspect
one of two things...

* The "Colors" configuration option in Internet Explorer has been changed
away from their defaults. (Open IE and select Tools > Internet Options.
Colors button should be at the bottom of the dialog. Default is to use
Windows colors.

* Using HTML stationery.
