Whenever I try to open a document on my computer on my Word 2002, it says
that it is infected, so i can't access it. What can I do?

i think that the infected files have something to do with service pack 2,
because the problems started after I installed it.

What *exactly* does the error message say?

I have had that happen to me before as well. You should visit one of the
virus sites on the web and download it so it can scan your computer. YOu
should also think about purchasing an anti-virus program to keep them away.

It's probably not because of service pack 2 because the error message says:

Norton Antivirus
The document C:\Documents and Settings\TEMP\Application
Data\Microsoft\Templates\Normal.dot is still infected. Do you want to delete
this file?

Thanks! Although I tried downloading an anti-virus program from the Microsoft
website and it corrupted my whole computer!

Normal.dot is the default template on which all documents depend to a
greater or lesser extent. Delete the file. Word will create a new clean one
when you next start it. If the error message re-occurs then you need to
virus check the complete system and I would recommed that you do this with
an on-line virus checker. Using a different one would not be a bad plan. It
is not that Norton's is poor, but that sometimes two heads are better than
one.

From the Microsoft web site? I am not aware of any antivirus products from
Microsoft. If you want something good (and free for home use) try AVG from
www.grisoft.com.

Thanks for all your help everyone. I have fixed the problem, because I looked
for other topics similar to mine and I found the answer. I disabled something
in Norton Antivirus and I can open all my documents now. I am also
downloading the AVG antivirus program.
