All Messages Are Marked as Read

Hi,

I exported my Windows Mail to an external hard drive and then imported them
to my new laptop. After the import I noticed that numerous e-mail that were
previously highlighted as unread on my original computer were now all marked
as read on the new computer. Why did this happen? Is there a way to fix
this?

No, it can't be fixed. The special status flags like 'read' are not exported.

Thank you for your response. However, did you mean though that special
status flags like "unread" are not exported? I ask this to confirm because
it was the "unread" messages that were exported as "read". I look forward to
your response.

I should have said, the read/unread status is not exported.
Neither are such things as which account downloaded the
message.
Since the importing program has no clue about the read/unread
status, it just marks them all as 'read'.
If there is some way you can sort those messages in a meaningful
way (by date or subject), then you can change the read/unread
status en masse.
