AIW Recording .vcr ok; avi and mpeg2, only snow results.

When recording to .vcr from TV Guide, results are great. Recording
to either avi or mpeg results in only snow, no picture at all.

Can't find anything in past news group msgs or on line to help.

System is ATI AIW 9600XT with all latest driver updates under w2k,
2.4 gc P4 .

Anyone point me in a direction to find out what I'm doing wrong.
Since I can't find any reports of this problem, presumably it's
something I'm doing or not doing.

Contacting ATI resulted in a bunch of useless references about
unrelated problems.

Any help appreciated.

record to .vcr, then use the ATI library to pick the recorded vcr file
and export/encode it to .mpg or .avi

Tried that several times. Results in something like 'can't open file'.
That's why I think I must be doing something wrong since all these
functions appear to work for everyone else.

Can you record these formats using the Record button in the TV Player?

also when you say "recoprding" excatly which way are yu strating your
recording? are you sure that the "connector" button is set to TV and not
svideo or composite?

I usually play around and test things every which way and then play my
results to test for sound/video quality.

Thanks to those who ans my request for info. After much experiment
finally isolated the reason for the subject failures and other anomalies.
Probably should have mentioned originally that the "System Compatibility
Check" (SCC) indicated that, although I have a AIW 9600XT installed, it
was not
a Radeon board nor are the hard drives set to DMA (in fact they are
operating
at ultra-DMA). In short, the "Sys Compat Check" is providing incorrect data.
When I contacted ATI re "SCC" bad info, they said to update my drivers,
now known to cause the problems, for me.

When all ATI driver are installed from the orig CD, there are no problems.
They occur when the latest driver files are installed. The obvious
solution
is to stick with the older versions on CD which is what I have done.

I guess this is another case of: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

Thanks again.
Jack.
