AIW 9800 Pro problems

Perhaps someone with more experience than I could help with some
problems I am having with an AIW 9800 pro card.
The card is installed on an Asus P4C800 e dlx with a P4 3.0 chip, 1 ghz
Kingston pc3200 value ram, 2 80GB maxtor drives on promise raid as
striped array. Onboard sound is enabled. There are no other cards
installed at this time. This is all installed in an Antec case with 2
120mm case fans and powered by an Antec true power 480 psu. OS is XP pro
with service pack 1. System is *not* overclocked. All items were
purchased new in unopened retail boxes.
System runs normally most of the time, however I was playing Morrowind,
a game that came with the AIW9800 card, and after about 30 minutes the
display went blank with a v sync out or range error displayed on the
monitor. I had to hit the reset button to get the system to reboot and
the boot went normally, however after about 5 more minutes of playing
morrowind the screen went blank again, this time without any v sync
errors. This was all with cat 3.6
I upgraded to cat 3.9 when I reinstalled xp (clean install) and all
seemed normal until my friend was playing Simpsons Hit n' Run. It played
normally for about 3 hours then quit with a VPU reset message. Game play
was resumed without rebooting the system and after about 30 seconds the
same thing happend, but this time it didnt respond to the VPU reset,
instead displaying corrupt video and locking the system. Upon pressing
the reset button the system rebooted normally and played the Simpsons
game correctly for another 3 hours. Later I was playing Combat Flight
Sim 2, and noticed corruption on the right side of the screen however
the game never locked up. Asus probe reported Mobo temps of 86F and CPU
temp of 112F and the heatsink on the ATI card never felt more than warm.
I ran 3dMark03 for 4 hours steady and noticed zero corruption and no
lockups. I have run memtest86 for several hours with no memory errors
reported. My question is, is this a hardware issue with my 9800pro card,
with the memory or motherboard, or is this a software/driver issue?
I have attempted to contact ATI support but there is a limit to how much
phone tag I have patience for and how much of an international phone
bill I am willing to pay to listen to muzak. It would be much more
satisfying to spend the phone bill money to fly to Canada and whack the
person who put me on hold at ATI over the head with the card. Seriously,
if anyone has any ideas it would be helpful. I really would like to get
this card working properly.
Thanks
Tim

Tim, If you are within your 30 day return time, send it back! The only way
you will get any help from the manufacture is when they start seeing a lot
of returns. I have a very similar system and so far I have not seen any
problems but I have not stressed my system to the level you have.
Good Luck, Jerry
