AIW 9700 - Slow Screen Redraw w/ Latest Catalyst Drivers

I've installed the latest Catalyst drivers on my trusty old AIW 9700 and now
everything redraws on the screen very slowly. It's painful as every
application renders on the screen in slow redraws. Scrolling up or down is
extremely slow...whether it's web pages or photos. I've checked the
vertical refresh rate in Control Panel and it doesn't matter whether it's
set to 60Hz or 75Hz.

Is any one aware what might cause the slow renderings/redraws? The ATI/AMD
website points to the latest drivers when looking up the AIW 9700 so it
can't be an overall compatibility issue. I'm guessing there's a setting in
the Catalyst Control Center that eliminates this effect yet it's not obvious
to me. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I usually get that scrolling redraw on the reboot after installing new
drivers. It goes away after the drivers have completed loading for the
first time. Maybe you have a borked driver install. I would try
uninstalling the drivers, then reboot and install again.
