HELP! - Lowered Capture Limit on AIW 9700 Pro w/ Catalyst 3.8-MMC 8.7

I just upgraded my AIW 9700 Pro drivers to Catalyst 3.8 and my MMC to 8.5 to
8.7. I now notice that when I go to my presets in MMC, the various encoders
available no longer show a 720x480 max capture resolution as an option but
rather 704x480!

Has anyone else noticed this, and are there any ideas as to why there is no
longer an option 720x480 capture available?

It's still available for MPEG-2 capturing but not for AVI.

Probably because 704x576 gives you the correct aspect ratio and 720x480
does not!

For PAL 720x576 AVI was never available. It was always 704x576 and that
was the correct resolution. The 720x576 MPEG-2 resolution is still
available. That's unfortunate for PAL users because 720x576 results in a
slightly wrong aspect ratio!

And by the way, 704x480 NTSC is a DVD compliant resolution.

Of course, being in PAL land I wasn't able to test NTSC but I did
compare 720x576 PAL to 704x576 PAL and 704 was correct. Read this:

Simply put: for 720 to be correct there have to be small black bars left
and right of the picture. If there are no black bars then 704 is the way
to go. The excellent video editor I'm using, Vegas 4.0, refers to
704x480 as NTSC Cropped.
