AGHH!! The noise!!

I built my own system recently.. Really, I just followed several receipes
already on the internet.. Anywho. I have a thermaltake case, and when all
the fans are plugged in at high speed, its barely a whisper.. I also got a
Thermaltake Volcano11 for a cpu (AMD) cooler, and GAH!!! Its SO LOUD! I
can't turn it up much past the mid level else its just too much to take for
long.

I'd seriously consider water cooling at this point just to drop the noise,
but thats a pretty big edge to leap off of. Does anyone have any other
suggestions for quality CPU coolers that don't sound like an arctic wind?

Much thanks..

really any heatsink designed to be used with an 80mm fan will be fine
especially if you combine it with a panaflo L or M fan. there's a cheap one
at newegg that's pretty popular, do a search at newegg for speeze and look
for the one with over 100 user reviews.
avoid heatsinks with 60mm fans like the plague and don't waste your money on
fan adapters, they don't work.

I highly recommend the Thermalright SLK-800 Heatsink with Delta fan.

I run AMD too and this combination was the only one to get my CPU below 40°
with the fan turning at the lowest speed!. And it is very quiet too!

And just in case, make sure that the CPU fan blows onto the CPU, not sucks
the air from the CPU. Some people get that wrong too (I speak from
experience ;-))

3200, I was planning on overclocking. I guess there is nothing tying me to
the fan, I should be able to swap that out.

With the overclocking be vigilant about the CPU temps with a slower fan.
Might not make much difference, but then again...

I second the Thermalright SLK-800. Depending on your motherboard, the
SLK-900U may fit. That one can use a 92mm fan. Very quiet and powerful.

wait a sec.......the OP never says WHAT CPU he's using...if its a Intel chip
your wasing good money, cause they run just fine on stock OEM coolers. And
they are quiet.

yeah he says he bought a TV11 "FOR A" AMD instead of ''FOR MY" or "FOR
THE" so I thought maybe he bought A TV11 that fit an AMD and used it on a
different chip....it was early...

the OEM heatsink/fan on the P4 cools just fine but they aren't very quiet
except for when you first start up.
