Aggravating SP2 vs SP1 Error Loop

T

A friend and I bought copies of XP Home SP1 when first released. Both
of us allowed automatic updates. Both our systems are now updated
to SP2.

Both systems have developed problems where we get an automatic error
message telling us specific files need to be replaced, and ordering us
to load our XP Home SP2 disk to fix this error.

However, neither of us have an XP Home SP2 disk. Insertion of our XP
Home SP1 disk only provokes yet another aggravating error message
telling us we have inserted the wrong disk.

There appears to be no option for our XP Home to call home and fix its
problems from there.

Have others experienced this aggravating Catch-22 error loop? If so,
how resolved?

Wheeeewwwwww........ It worked, but what a complex, convoluted
process for somebody like me not all that comfortable with the inner
workings of computers. What a shame that Microsoft doesn't have
some kind of upgrade process for situations like this.

Many thanks for the link, appreciated.
