After upgrading to BCM v2 cannot produce reports

I just upgraded to Business Contact Manager version 2.

Selecting any of the canned reports produces the error message 'The report
could not be generated. Please try again.'

I reviewed the event log and there is an entry from when I performed the
upgrade which says... "Product: Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 with Business
Contact Manager Update -- Configuration failed." and has data of
"{BA68600E-96D9-4E92-80F2-26B9681B5A63} "

This is preceded by an event which says "Detection of product
'{BA68600E-96D9-4E92-80F2-26B9681B5A63}', feature 'CrystalReports' failed
during request for component '{94FEC53A-F420-4175-9CAE-1E231F8B3D19}'".

Looks like Crystal Reports was not packaged with the upgrade properly!

Whidbey is codename for the pre release Version for CLR and Visual
Studio 2006.

BCM does NOT behave correctly when Whidbey is installed.

To those that have having this issue, I have please answer the
following:

1. If you "upgraded" to V2, did you have the Beta installed when you
did so?
2. If so, did you uninstall MSDE as well BEFORE installing V2?

Was BCM on this machine an upgrade from BCM V1 or a clean install?
Can you see if any of the Crystal Reports Assemblies were installed? To do
that:
1. Go to Control Panel > Administrative Tools
2. Select & Open .NET Framework 1.1 Configuration
3. Click on "Assembly Cache" and then in the Middle click on "View List of
Assemblies in the Assembly Cache"

There should be 10 items beginning with Crystal

To Fix these issues please do the following
1. Back up your database (make sure its saved at a safe location)
2. Export your data to a BCM File (make sure this is saved at a safe
location)
3. Un install BCM and MSDE
4. Reboot
5. Install BCM again
6. Restore the DB (saved in step1) .
7. If step 6 faills (import the BCM file exported)

This should fix the problem

I did not have the Beta installed. My Outlook was part of MS Office
Professional Edition 2003 which I won as a door prize. It may have been a
promotional version as there were no manuals with it.

I did not manually uninstall MSDE. In "Add or Remove Programs", the only
MSDE entry is 8.00.2039 MICROSOFTSMLBIZ.

Ah. That seems to have fixed it. Like many marriages, it takes two times
before it sticks. BTW, I noticed that the SQL Server agent icon is now
missing from the QuickLaunch bar. Is that intentional?

Hi,
I have the same issue with reports.
To answer your questions: mine was an upgrade from V1.
I went to the place you suggested and there is no sign of any Crystal files.

Yes, it was an upgrade from V1. The other day I re-installed per the
instructions of (e-mail address removed) and everything is working fine. There
are 10 Crystal related items in my assembly cache.

I have the same problem - followed (e-mail address removed)'s steps but
issue remains.

Had BCM v1 and upggraded to v2.

Uninstalled BCM, restored DB, then had to import backup file... no
change.

I have no Crystal Reports Assemblies showing.

Appreciate the help.

Thanks,
Sean

Tried uninstalling/reinstalling three more times - same outcome.

Crystal Assmeblies available after v1 install, but disappear after v2
update.

Steps:
Uninstalled BCM using add/remove
Rebooted
Installed BCM v1
(Crystal assemblies displayed)
Rebooted
Installed BCM v2 update
(Crystal assmeblies disappear)
Rebooted
Same error

:(

Fixed it.

Went to Add/Remove BCM Update and did a change, reinstall
It couldn't find the temp install files, so with the window open still
prompting for location of the files, ran the BCM v2 update just to the
point of uncompression.
Pointed the BCM resinstall location to the new temp folder
C:\69XXXXXXXXXXXXX
Proceeded with the reinstall.
Assemblies came back and it's working.

Thanks,
Sean
