I upgraded from win98Se to Xp home and everything went
fine, then after two hours of talking to a verizon dsl
tech i was all set with our internet connection. Here is
the first lil bug, After doing the windows updates i went
to check for updates for Mcafee, then i was told i had to
remove that version and get an updated one for XP, I did a
full uninstall of Mcafee, then checked for ANY and All
stuff left behind and removed that as well. Now here comes
the big bugger, I can not get onto Mcafee's web sites ??
www.mcafee.com (nope) i even went to google and tried
using links there and every time i try i get the same
error message, You know that white page that pops up and
says
Page can't be displayed ,,,can't find server,,, I called
mcafee tech, they had no clue,,i called verizon dsl and a
tech checked my explorer settings and everything was
right, and they told me to try here because they had no
clue either. Every other website i try to go to works just
fine, So why in Gods name am i being blocked from Mcafee's
website ??????????

Mmmm ok Mike, I know the link is good, that's my point !!
what or why am i being blocked from access to that site
after updating from win 98 to Xp home ? All i did was
remove all of Mcafee's stuff like i was told to, and then
tried to go back to there site so i could download an
update, and i can't get there web page to open ???

As for Mr Bill, ok maybe you think i'm stupid , but if
your so smart how come you didn't give me a REAL answer to
my problem ?

Hello
Go to this site and download the free virus scan, there are some virus' out
there that prevent you from connecting to virus protection websites, you may
have got one before you had your virus definitions updated, first enable the
Windows built-in firewall then proceed to do a virus scan then try to
connect and update.

Firewall

Well you were some help, Thanks
After saying *#@$ Mcafee and there web site i downloaded
another program and What Ah Surprise ! AVG picked up a
virus that McAfee missed. We had *Agobot.9.Ax* and it
looks like this new program removed it. But even now (and
i don't care) we still can't view the Mcafee website. Now
i want to find the Very Best Anti Virus Program on the
market. Can you OR anyone else offer a link or a product ?

Haus , sorry i forgot to say that the windows built-in-
firewall does not like our verizon dsl connection. But we
both have and use another one, ZoneAlarm Pro, Thanks
Again.

McAfee Professional version 7 does pick up every virus.. it is the fault of
no one here that you had a much earlier version that was not compatible with
XP.. it is a good idea to upgrade AV as new versions are released.. that
applies whether you use McAfee, Norton, PC-Cillin or whatever..

any other virus website. I cannot log on to any virus
website at all. I have contacted verizon dsl, microsoft,
and my computer manufaturer. Everyone says the same
thing. There must be a worm in my system. I still have
not gotten an answer as to how to correct this. Can

Hello Again
My guess is you are infected with the MY Doom virus see if you can connect
to the page and download the removal tool.
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/[email protected]

See if you can connect to McAfees' free scan and see if it will update and
run.
http://us.mcafee.com/root/mfs/default.asp

I have run McAfee for years now and have not had any problems, have talked
to people that run Norton and seems that they have had virus' slip by, I am
sure the same can happen to McAfee, not sure why Norton is so much more
popular.
The thing most people do not know is that after they buy a computer with
virus protection installed they have to go in and register and download the
updates and continue to update it or set it to auto update then after a
period of time the subscription will run out usually in 90-180 days at that
time they will have to purchase new protection either online or from a
retail store and at that time they will be able to update for a period of
365 days (1 year).

LOL Wrong, When we both *had* mcafee we checked for
updates , PLUS it was setup to download new updates
automatically so that theory or suggestion didn't apply
to us. And from what I've read in other topic groups
there are many other people besides us that went to
better programs then mcafee.

Mmmmm dunno bout that (infected with the MY Doom virus)
but i will check into that. Eight years ago when we
bought our first computer we used Norton Products, Then
for what ever reason we switched to mcafee, and when
mcafee came out with the on-line version we stayed with
that up until a few days ago. I (we) are very familiar
with how to use and how to keep a virus program up to
date.
BUT you are soooooooo very right, i know people that
don't and the above does apply to them. My wife is going
to keep using the Pro Ver of AVG and I'm going to test
out another product. Thanks for you input, I won't be
responding to this post any more as far as i'm concerned
de problem is solved.
