After Installing SP2 I get a black screen after login

Okay, this is what is happening. I install SP2 on my computer, which
always goes well (I have downloaded it a few times in different ways
hoping it was corrupt.) I then restart my computer. Windows comes up to
the login screen, I login. This is when it all goes bad the screen goes
black. So, I first think it's the display drivers. I rolled SP2 got the
newest drivers from ATI, upgrade back to SP2, same problem. I repeat
this whole process, but this time with third party drivers and again
with the drivers that came with the video card. I have the same problem
with whatever driver I try. Then I get the brilliant idea to VPN my
computer, since as soon as its started the VPN server is there.
However, I get no response from the VPN server. No matter what I have
tried I can't get SP2 on this computer. By the way I am removing SP2 by
going into recovery mode or whatever its called and yes I have tried
formatting and installing SP2 as soon as I did. This did work until I
installed display drivers again. The only thing I can think of is the
possibilty that my video card is not SP2 compatible.

It's a Radeon 9600 XT 128mb... Can't remember what company off the top
of my head.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You could try a different graphics card, also consider updating your MoBo
BIOS.
Also rather than D/Ling SP2 get it on CD, most good computer shops should
still have it, or you can try M$ [they will charge a small postage fee]

Well I read through these. The first thing I have an AMD processor so
all the P4 problems aren't causing it. The next thing is I have the
highest BIOS for my board and my board is a SP2 board. I have come to
the conclusion that it's actually my XP CD causing the problem. Since
just recently my brother called and was having the same problem and he
has completely different hardware than me. I guess it's time to try an
SP2 install CD and see if that works. I was avoiding this because there
is so much I need to reinstall.

Anyhow thanks for the help.
