I installed the compatibility pack, when I restarted, the auto start opion
for htm, html were broken. I tried to assign ieexplorer, but after selecting
the exe, it defaulted back to Word or Excel which was the one selected on the
previous screen.

It won't take IE.

Any ideas?

you might try deleting the extension
from the registry the recreating it via
the disk explorer.

click on start>run>regedit

then via the menu option do a search
for html

this should take you to a branch where
all the extensions/file types are listed
in alphabetical order.

then delete the htm and html keys.

close then open the explorer.

go to tools, folder options and
then to file types.

if you scroll down the listing you
should not find the htm or html
types anymore.

therefore you can create them
at this time.

then set their "open" command and
point to the iexplorer.exe file that is
located under program files.

should be in a folder like this one:

"C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe"
