after copying .pst file can you .....

I have a laptop that I travel with a couple of times a month. I need to take
my outlook and .pst file with me to stay connected but when I return I prefer
my outlook and .pst to reside on my desktop on my desk.

I know how to copy the .pst file, but .... the 'rules' I've created do not
work after the copy and today because I have a NEW laptop, none of the
account info is there. Is there a way to transfer the 'rules' and the
'account' data so I don't have to re-type them all?

I have 6 email accounts I monitor.

Unfortunately there is no way of automatically transferring the account
details - you will have to re-type them. Surely that's only less than a
couple of minutes?

surly I can type the six account's data, but it sure seems like a logical
thing for outlook to have. I believe Express has it....

How about the issue with 'rules' in that everytime I copy the .pst file back
and forth Ihave to confirm the folders to get the rules to work again?

Outlook is not Express. However you could import the accounts to express,
export the iaf, import the iaf on the new computer and export the accounts
to outlook. Generally speaking, its just easier to set up the accounts in
outlook, especially with the autodiscovery features. (Outlook uses PRF files
to predefine accounts but you need to make this manually, you can't export
one from an existing profile. If you reformat often a PRF is worthwhile to
have.)

Rules are tied to the profile and path - the pst needs to be in the
**exact** same path on both and the profile needs to be the exact same name.
If it still fails, the rules are tied to a GUID, which you can't change - in
that case, you'll need to find a new solution or not use the rules on both
machines. (Run them later on the main system). Another option is to fix the
rules, export them then import them each time you switch machines.
