After clean install xp cannot find NIC

Hi
After I format the C drive (there was earlier W98 SE). I made a clean install from the xp CD. Everything look fine but the system couldn't find the network card. In the device manager is not a sign of a network card, but together with W98 SE the card worked splendid.
Please help.

Hopefull for all kind of help.
 
You might want to check if the card is certified for XP. I remember when XP came out, there were some hardware devices not supported by XP. It sounds like an older card, and might not be compatible. I am not, however, an expert....
 
Try a different PCI slot.
