After 2 Crashes: No IE6 History on restart

I D/L a free shareware CD ripping program from download.com and tried to
rip a CD to my computer. That one didn't work so I went thru Add/Remove to
get rid of that one and D/L another and tried again. It seemed to be
working but then I got a serious CRASH with the blue screen of death (sorry,
I didnt write down what the explanation was..."if this is the first time you
ve seen this screen..blah blah) After a restart, it took a LONG time to
stop grinding away and seemed OK, I proceeded and got another big time
crash and had to power down to get out of the blue screen. Both times I got
a warning Window about a serious crash and it wanted to send the dtails to
Microsoft..."OK"

Anyway, I gave up on the ripping and now the only symptom that anything odd
happend is that in IE6, there is no "History" saved..that is, if I open say
5 websites, they open fine and are there on the drop down menu/address
bar..until I shut down. On restart, the websites are all gone..No History
from earlier (the 5 sites) and no History from Yesterday or before either.
Its big time inconvenient to have to (two finger) type in all my sites every
day.

New: in this session, I visited 6 different websites..I just checked
"History" and they re all gone..without a shut down

Any ideas how to remedy this ?

I tried to check with Microsoft "Help" regarding the loss of the History
function. All it says is how to delete the history and makes reference to

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\TypedURLs ...url1,
url2, url3 etc

I guess I should add, I did use a program "Registry Optimizer: Win ASO
Registry Optimizer 2.6 " the other day along with my Spybot S&D and
AdAware.

I 've used all three of these in the past and didnt have any problem with
them. AFAIK, The History didnt disappear til the "ripping and Big Time
crashing" yesterday.

Check how many days you are retaining history for--if 0, it is not saved.
Try toggling different retention periods and see if that helps. If it
doesn't, you may have a corrupt folder.

It was set at 5..but acted like ZERO. Tried resetting a few times to
different values and restarting to no avail.

Eventually, some of my other ol' faithful programs started to act up as
well. I suspect the "freeware" ripper I D/L was corrupted with some
EVILware (even though I scanned my whole computer with AV, Ad-aware and
SPYBOT and came up 'clean"? ) and to get my other programs back, I ditched
the freeeware and ripped results by doing a SYS RESTORE. All working well
now

thanks

Thanks for the feedback. You never know what you are going to get when you
download freeware :)
