Aero

Ok, I'm sure this has been beaten to death but I'm sick of it already.
Everytime I boot to windows Vista I have to restart the areo interface. It
is not easy as I have to type a command in the run box. I hate that and one
day I'm bound to forget the command and I'll have to search the net for it.
Why does this keep happening and how do I force windows to keep Aero alive.
I have plenty of ram and Aero say the video card is supported. It is not
only being deactivated, but the option is being removed from the window
color and appearance tab. I'm ready to punch a hole in my LCD screen.

Any way to stop this major annoyance.

I don't know what the problem is but why don't you create a script with
this command & put a shortcut to it in the startup dir?
Or schedule the command in task Scheduler?
No need to type it manually every startup, whatever it is.

I could do that and I probably will but it is really annoying that we have
to fix a big for MS when their programmers make a ton of money to do this. I
was hoping someone might have seen this as well and perhaps found some
information on how to force Vista to stop doing it. I'm sure it is related
to one of my programs that probably isn't totally compatible with Vista but
it is still annoying. It is annoying that the feature completely disappears.
It would be less so if the feature only turned off.

You need to do some research on your staryup programs then to see if it
is them.
I don't even know what the command is you are entering.
But you have a workaround anyway which will stop you typing it into the
run box & forgetting it, which was what you originally posted about.

Are the drivers for your graphics card up to date? Are the drivers out of
beta with the card manufacturer or are they still doing some development on
the drivers, are the drivers fully functional or does information at the
manufacturer's website indicate these are basic drivers with fully
functional drivers to come later?

That bad huh?
Ok, you may want to try this Aero Glass registry hack. Not sure if it
will solve your problem but may be worth a try.

1) Ensure that you have the following registry values set to:

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\DWM\Composition set to 1 (32-bit DWORD)

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\DWM\CompositionPolicy set to 2 (32-bit
DWORD)

2) Restart DWM by opening a command prompt with administrative privileges:

Type (no quotes of course) 'net stop uxsms'
Then 'net start uxsms'

The command to reactivate Aero is

net start uxsms

and my drivers for my video card are up to date.......brand new ones from
ATI.

Have you checked to make sure that the service is set to automatic?
