Aero= Disappointment

Hi,
Is it me; or is Aero disappointing;to say the least. Why the big gpu push;if it's only going to be glass borders???
Surely MS can do more with Aero. Disappointing; Borders of glass;big deal.
Why not some truly innovative stuff?
If Mac can do 3d icons already;what's holding MS up with Aero? It's a big marketing thing;and you'd think
that they can come up with more glass stuff than just borders.
And to say more;the big push;to get Vista ready;hardware;is sort of a joke;if the only thing Aero is going to do is glass borders and flip3d
I saw Colin post;that 3rd party apps will do more;but why not MS???
Any comments;suggestions;welcomed

Mostly because Aero does more than glass borders. They say that Aero puts the
graphics processing for windows on the graphics card instead of the CPU. This
is much more efficient than the CPU doing everything, which is pretty
innovative. I don't believe OS X or Linux has this feature, but I can't be
certain.

That, and according to Microsoft, the glass borders are not just for looks.
The glass serves to redirect your attention away from the borders and towards
the content.

Besides, the glass is actually very nice looking.

3rd party apps will do what windows should have done

With enough apps and hacks they may make VISTA a usable and likeable OS

I agree with the original poster...would be better if the windows are like
the window menu for adding sidebar elements or set lower transparency for the
inner window would be nice

I remember I saw two years ago a video showing new Longhorn's 3D
Desktop, and the effects were very good, so was disappointing to me to
see Aero on Beta 2 doing flip 3D only from that stuff. As I said on a
previous post, I think MS is going to do a very good 3D desktop
experience, but unfortunately I think we don't see it on Vista, may be
on a later Windows major version. It's very good to move all graphics
stuff to the gpu, but they need to lower the gpu requirements and memory
consumption if the only effects they will implement are flip3D and glass.

Aero's Purpose.

I understand Aero feature of Windows Vista has a number of purposes, both
technical and financial, such as:

-Technical, to improve PC efficiency as you mention.

- Financial, to generate PC Hardware and Graphic Card sales.

When introducing a new world wide OS it would be good if we can get
corporate and general business along with the public to purchase new
hardware, and not just retain their old hardware when purchasing the new OS.
The hardware OEM's demand this of MS.

I've worked for a few OEMs in the past and would agree that with each
new O/S there has usually been a market demand for new hardware too and
that has been good for those businesses. But it isn't a conspiracy.

Much of my current business will benefit from the introduction of Vista
and that is good for me but if the buyers didn't think there was a
benefit to them they wouldn't buy Vista or any new hardware.

Any O/S has to keep up with new hardware technologies.

Umm, who has their attention on the app's borders of any Windows OS?
I find the client content of a program much more interesting than borders or
the title bar.

Umm, who has their attention on the app's borders of any Windows
OS?
I find the client content of a program much more interesting than
borders or the title bar.

Wasn't one of the main compaints about XP the lurid border style,
variously described as Tellytubbies or Fisher Price?
