Windows 98: IE6 Options>Connections>Settings

The Advanced button is grayed out and so the check boxes
to control time-outs and download times cannot be
accessed. How can these be activated?

It's a AdvancedTab restriction, and you'll find it in either or both of the
following Registry
subkeys:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control
Panel
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control
Panel

Go to Start > Run > Regedit, navigate to the above Registry keys, and delete
the AdvancedTab DWORD
value you'll find there.

Or go to Edit > Find/Search, and do a keyword search for a AdvancedTab
value. If you find one,
delete it.

In fact, if you find Control Panel Subkeys (Subfolders) at those particular
locations, it's always
safe to delete them in their entirety, as they aren't there by default, and
only serve for the
purpose of setting restrictions.

NOTE: Before editing the Registry, ALWAYS back it up, or alternatively, in
the case of Win ME or
XP, create a Restore Point.

If this is a machine at work, check with your Admin.
