I use my computer for mixing sound bytes for fun and profit (actually
there's not a lot of profit yet but my day will come.)

I've been able to get to the screen to adjust the microphone volume up until
about an hour ago while in the middle of a recording session. Suddenly when
I click on the volume icon in the tray nothing happens. The screen does not
come up and stays in the bar.

I have restarted twice (and I've even done a complete shut down) and I've
even gone in thru the Control Panel, but nothing seems to correct the
situation.

Any suggestions?

To resolve this issue, extract a new copy of Sndvol32.exe from the Windows XP
CD to the system_root \System32 folder on your computer's hard disk. To do
this, follow these steps:

Start/Run/CMD. In the command prompt window type:

X: (where X is your CD Drive letter)
CD \I386

Then use the expand command: expand -r sndvol32.ex_ c:\windows\system32
