Advanced Appearance Settings not Saving

When I make changes to the Advanced Appearance in Display Properties (such as
Active Title Bar color) they show up in the preview window but they never get
"applied." The only account on my PC is my admin account so I should be able
to make all the changes. My backgrounds work fine, but the changes to
Advanced Settings do not take. Please help me...

Thank you for responding. I would tend to think that there is a way to make
those changes since the buttons are active and the changes are previewed. If
this feature were not available, why would it be there to begin with?

I'd like to change the colors and fonts ant it shows up in preview. As a
matter of fact, if I look quickly enough, I can see the changes if I minimize
a window from my desktop...

Mike:

The settings available in the Advanced Appearance window only apply when
you use the Classic theme, as explained in the Help and Support Center.
(See 'To change the look of Window elements'.)

You have to have Windows and buttons set to Windows Classic style.

It says right on the Advanced Appearance page:

If you select a visual style other than Windows Classic, that style
determines the appearance of your menus, fonts, icons, and other Window
elements.

In order to fully use this feature you must have your Windows and
buttons setting on Windows Classic.

Windows Classic style in the Windows and buttons list on the Appearance tab
of Display Properties, *NOT* Windows Classic theme on the Themes tab of
Display Properties. These are two entirely different things.

If you select a visual style other than Windows Classic, that style
determines the appearance of your menus, fonts, icons, and other Window
elements. Including Windows and buttons.

Windows and buttons
[[Lists the visual styles that are available for the theme that is currently
selected on the Themes tab. Click the visual style you want to use.]]

If you do this:
1. Open the display properties and then the Appearance tab.
2. Change Windows and buttons to Windows XP Style.
3. The color scheme will change to allow you to select the schemes Blue,
Olive and Silver.

Those are the only choices you get.

If you change Windows and buttons to Windows Classic style, you can change
the look of individual items, you also get way more colors under Color
scheme.

If Windows Classic style is the only choice for Windows and buttons, the
Themes service is not running.
