ADSL Modem & small LAN not working together

David

I have a LAN with a XP pro host and 2 client machines with win98 on them,
these are hooked together via a hub. All worked together well with fixed
IP's 198.168.0.1 / .2 /3. But now I have connected a ADSL modem to the hub
and when connected to the LAN with the fixed IP's only connection is made
between the two client win98 machines. When I change the IP addressing on
the host to auto addressing then I can work the internet but Not my client
machines. My ISP does not give me a fixed (static) address.

Is it possible to continue to have the hub setup with all the machines
including the ADSL modem hooked into it and have both internet connect and
sharing of files between all my 3 machines ?
I would love some help please
David.

Setup ICS on the XP Pro box.

You need to purchase a second NIC for the XP Pro box. Connect the ASDL modem to one NIC in the XP
box and the hub to the other NIC. The Windows 98 machines would still connect to the hub... Make
sure you enable the ICF on the XP box to protect your network...

Probably the easiest and most reliable way to fix this would be to purchase
a DSL router and connect your broadband connection and all computers to it.
That will get all the computers into the same address range (have them
obtain an IP address from the router) and will allow you to share your
internet connection without using ICS.
